This one year full time course has a dual purpose award. It is designed for those who have an interest in working as a Health Care Assistant (HCA) or Special Needs Assistant (SNA). The course is structured to give students a strong knowledge base in the practices and procedures to work in both these fields. Employment can be sought on completion of this course in schools, hospitals, nursing homes, community care or in a residential care setting. Work experience is an integral part of this course and consists of a minimum three weeks block placement during the academic year. In addition the course provides the students with a unique opportunity to participate in BCFE’s Community Partnership Programme with a local primary school.
Five O6/H7 in Leaving Certificate/LCVP or a merit in Leaving Certificate Applied or QQI Level 4 Certificate. Relevant work-experience is an advantage. The academic entry requirements may be waived for mature applicants (21+). All applicants are required to bring two written references to interview.
Graduates may progress to courses in Higher Education Institutions on a competitive basis through the QQI Common Awards System (CAS). For information on the scheme see Higher Education Links Scheme.
Graduates with a merit profile may apply for entry to QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Social and Vocational Integration in BCFE.
