OVERVIEW

This Certificate in Media Production – Journalism and Radio Broadcasting course aims to provide students with a foundation in a wide range of practical technical skills which are needed to work in both journalism and broadcast media.

Throughout the year students are involved in practical media projects such as radio programme recording, editing, presentation and production and journalistic writing and publication. In addition, there is a one day a week practical media-industry work placement.

These projects and placements are aimed at developing your media skills and knowledge for direct employment in the media industries or for progression onto media diploma courses in BCFE or directly to level 7 and 8 media degree courses.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Five O6/H7 in Leaving Certificate/LCVP including English or a merit in Leaving Certificate Applied or QQI Level 4 Certificate. Applicants should show an interest in and aptitude for journalism at the interview. The academic entry requirements may be waived for mature applicants (21+).

CERTIFICATION

QQI Level 5 Certificate in Media Production 5M18518

Certification will be at level 5 on the QQI Common Awards System.

PROGRESSION

Graduates may progress to courses in Higher Education Institutions on a competitive basis through the new QQI Common Awards System (CAS). For information on the scheme see Higher Education Links Scheme.
