Overview

The Return to Learning (BTEI) Craft course is a foundation course for adults.  The aim of the course is to give adults who left school early or who are a long time out of education the opportunity to return to education and to participate in a year of learning and exploration.  Students gain the knowledge and skills necessary for further study.

This Back to Education Jobs Initiative (BTEI enables adults to return to learning in a positive and supportive environment.  Classes are small and personal attention is assured.

Course Content

This programme is timetabled for mornings, 16 hours per week.    Content includes:

  • Mathematics
  • Personal & Interpersonal Development
  • Computer Applications
  • Work Based Experience
  • Entrepreneurial Skills
  • Drawing
  • Textiles
  • Painting

BTEI is free to

  • All with less than upper-second level education or (Level 4 or 5)
  • All those in receipt of Social Welfare Payment
  • All those dependent on a Social Welfare recipient
  • All those with a current medical card
  • All those signing for credits

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have a standard of knowledge, skill and competence equivalent to NFQ Level 3 when accessing a Level 4 programme.  Applicants may have participated in primary and secondary education although no formal qualifications are required.

Certification

QQI Level 4 Certificate in General Learning (4M2010)

Progression

Students who successfully complete RTL may apply for entry to QQI Level 5 courses in BCFE and other Colleges of Further Education.  Students may also apply for entry to University Access courses.
