BCFE Students ‘Painting of a Principal’

Animation and Graphic Design students took part in a day of portrait painting. The Principal of Ballyfermot College retired recently and the students held a Portrait Artist Of The Year type event.

Maureen came to the college and sat for 3 hours while the students painted her, this is a challenging task and puts the artist under pressure to get a likeness and capture something of the person in a short amount of time. The portraits where then finished at home with the aid of photographs taken on the day.

Maureen has chosen her favourite piece by a second year animation student Maria kalatozishvili who is from Russia. Maria will be continuing in the college studying animation on the degree program.

This was a really enjoyable day and resulted in great paintings and also added experience in portrait painting for the students. On the back of this we are starting a portrait club in September at BCFE where people can volunteer to sit for their portrait and have the choice of purchasing one of the paintings at a reduced rate. This will be open to students and staff of the college and maybe even past students! See the portraits left and below, and the students on the day below.
