Game Design student Gavin Cummins wins Black Shamrock Scholarship

Gavin is in his final year of the Game Design degree course at Ballyfermot Campus.

In 2024, Principal Cecilia Munro of Ballyfermot Campus signed an MOU with Black Shamrock to launch the first ever scholarship fund for students, following discussions between Industry Liaison Orla Daly, Deputy Principal Ken Rea, Course Coordinator Gwen Fagan, and Robert Emerson of Black Shamrock, a Virtuous Studio.

To be eligible, students submit a portfolio of their current work and a cover letter to Black Shamrock. The studio encouraged students to include works in progress, lessons learned from their mistakes, as well as completed games in their applications. Professional presentation and attitude were essential aspects of the selection process.

Gavin says

I’m incredibly excited to receive this scholarship, as it’s a huge help in supporting my development in game design. Grateful for the opportunity and excited to make the most of it!

The very best to you from all of us, Gavin!
