Nora Twomey’s multi-award winning and Academy Award® nominated drama ‘The Breadwinner’ releases in Ireland this Friday – May 25th.

Nora Twomey is a past student of Ballyfermot College. She is the Co-founder and Creative Director of Cartoon Saloon an internationally renowned independent animation studio. As a Creative Director at Cartoon Saloon, Nora oversees the development of the company’s slate of productions such as Puffin Rock, the pre-school series narrated by Chris O’ Dowd and acquired by Netflix. Nora directed the multi-award winning short films From Darkness and Cúilín Dualach [Backwards Boy]. Nora was Co-Director of Cartoon Saloon’s Oscar® nominated animated feature The Secret of Kells and Head of Story on their Oscar® nominated Song of the Sea.

Nora is the seventh Ballyfermot College graduate who was nominated for an Oscar. She joins an elite list, which includes Oscar winner Richard Baneham for visual effects on the 2010 film Avatar. Others include Cathal Gaffney and Jack O’Connell for the 2002 short animated film ‘Give Up Yer Aul Sins’, Tomm Moore and Paul Young, Animated Feature, ‘Song of the Sea’ 2015 and Nikki Phelan & Darragh O’Connell for the short animated ‘Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty’ 2010.
