Nora Twomey and Fabian Erlinghauser of Cartoon Saloon visit Ballyfermot Campus

Art and Animation students were thrilled to welcome Ballyfermot alumni Nora Twomey and Fabian Erlinghauser on Wednesday, 20th January for a presentation by Nora, followed by Q&A and portfolio review sessions where she was joined by Fabian. Nora invited us along on a personal journey of finding like-minded people and the relationships she formed in college, where she met Fabian, Tomm Moore, and Paul Young; to their early days producing commercial work, and eventually producing award winning animated feature films. Nora shared what she learned besides “Beginning, Middle, and End”, which included a formative lesson from mentor Didier Brunner, who stressed the importance of finding her own voice – and that good storytellers find a way to the “secret self” to create compelling stories. Nora also spoke of the “persistence of vision” which is essential for a team of people working together to produce a coherent project; of empowering your crew; and the importance of compromise, resilience and continual learning. Nora left us with a rare gift: a brave story, beautifully told.
