Three books by 1st Year Illustration students are purchased by the National Collection
There was exciting news last week for three first-year Illustration students from AIH, whose handmade books were purchased by the National Collection at The Dublin Art Book Fair, held at The Temple Bar Gallery.
The books by Reete Ramona Kestlane, Natalia Wortmann and Sandra Lulei were on display throughout November, as part of this highly anticipated annual event that celebrates the art of the book. Each of the students created their pieces in response to this year’s theme, ‘Fictions: The Making of Other Worlds’, using a range of traditional media, including watercolour, gouache, stitch, and fine liner. This theme allowed the students to explore imaginative and fantastical concepts, blending visual storytelling with meticulous bookbinding skills. The handmade nature of each book was individual to the respective narratives and included accordion and Japanese-bound techniques. Being selected for the National Collection is a fantastic achievement and congratulations to each of the artists involved.
