Record 35 shortlisted nominations for IMRO Radio Industry Awards for BCFE Radio Alumni
In 2019 there were 14 Nominations and 8 Overall winners at the IMRO Radio Industry Awards. This year BCFE Radio alumni more than doubled the average shortlist with a record 35 nominations!
Many ex radio students are up for 3, 4 and even 5 different awards. Many sections have 3 and in some cases 4 ex-radio students all in competition for the same award, but luckily the camaraderie, friendship and “Ballier Heads” spirit will win out on the night!
Categories with Radio alumni in them include:
Best General Music, Breakfast Show, Music Event/Show, Sports Story, Sports Prog, Documentary, Magazine Programme, Interactive, Community Social Action, Competition Promotion, On Air Imaging, Entertainment Inserts, Digital and Social, Music and Entertainment presenter of the year, Radio DJ of the Year, Speech Broadcaster of the Year and The Radio Moment of year.
Kept secret is the shortlist for Local Station of the Year, Music Station of the Year and National Station of the Year, so with a number of ex-Radio students now as PD’s and Running the stations we may well see that number increase.
IMRO Radio Awards takes place on Friday October 2nd and with Government restrictions in place, the Gala Dinner cannot be held this year; therefore the awards will be a live video stream to allow us all join in from home or in smaller groups. Dermot Whelan, along with other guests, will stream the event live to mark the very best in Irish radio broadcasting and recognise those who have made contributions over the past year. We in BCFE will update you here with those results.
We should point out that categories and shows naturally can include other presenters and teams.
Many of these students would also have done the foundation MND course and then the MRH Radio Higher National Diploma and then the BAMPM Honours Degree in Media Production Management.
We really hope we didn’t miss anyone, apologies if we did and please let us know.
We are all really thrilled to have played a part in the process and keen to remind you all what brings shivers to most (when reminded that the box with cassettes, reel-to-reels and mini discs is still out the back of the Radio classroom containing all your early work).
If you have any photos or memorabilia or recordings of those days, please also get in touch. If nothing else its been way too long for many of you, so do say hi just for the sake of it.
Congrats to All!
