Several radio graduates including Michaela Hayes and Shireen Langan

All Stars and No January Blues for Radio Students in BCFE  

2023 and January started well for the former and current students of the Radio programming and Podcasting course at Ballyfermot College of Further Education

SPIN 1038 All new Weekday shows took to air, Michaela Hayes started in SPIN 1038 from 10am to 3pm Daily. Michaela was a music director and presented a successful talk show too. Also on Spin 1038 current first Year BCFE Radio student Matthew also started presenting overnights.

2FM Beta de Silva can be heard 7pm-9pm daily and almost as that ends former classmate on 98FM, Shireen Langan can be now heard 10pm to Midnight. Shireen previously presented a successful talk show on FM104 whilst still a BCFE student and wrote a book on Podcasting.

Irelands Classic Hits Radio, Ruth Abbott left as Senior Producer of the twice daily award-winning “Niall Boylan Talk Show” and went over to Virgin Media TV’ “The Six OClock Show

Trina Mara took over that Senior Producer role as well as presenting her own show “Classic Hits with Trina Mara” weekdays from 10am-12pm and “Something for the Weekend” every Saturday morning from 7am-10am. Trina also produces Damian Farrelly in the Afternoon Monday-Friday from 2pm-7pm.

These were just some main weekday developments in January 2023 and there are many other developments at weekends such as Current Second Year Radio student Oisin Coyne Presenting and Producing sports updates for “More Music Sportsbeat” on KFM each Saturday and Sunday 2pm-6pm along with working in the newsroom.

A lot of current Radio Programming and Podcasting students are on Work placements in those and other Radio stations and there are many other BCFE Radio Course Alumni on air in those stations as well as behind the scenes in Production and Management.

Entry Requirements

  1. No portfolio required.
  2. Leaving Certificate / LCVP minimum of two H5 / O1 and three O6 / H7 grades or equivalent.
  3. QQI Level 5 award with a merit profile or BTEC National Diploma with a merit profile.
  4. Academic entry requirements may be waived for mature applicants (21+).
